WOAD WORKS WEB

Andy Hamilton Memorial Award

Andy loved morris and loved playing the music for it. He always encouraged others to make music and was particularly keen to encourage young people to take part.  He last danced out in the procession at the Rochester Sweeps Festival on May 6th 2002 when, despite being ill he joined Woad Works from the bottom of Castle Hill to the Two Brewers.

He died on June 8th 2002.

In his memory we have established an award for “A Young Morris Musician”

The first award was presented at Rochester Sweeps Festival in May 2003 to Katherine Hazell of Young Miscellany.  It included a gift voucher from Hobgoblin Music

The second award was made to Harry Elliot at the Rochester Sweeps Festival in May 2004.

The third award was made to William Hatton Price of Witchmen at the Rochester Sweeps Festival in May 2005.  It included a CD of Morris Music donated by Talking Elephant Records.  The CD has a picture of Andy on one of the inserts.

Our fourth award was made to Lauren Kruge of Anstey Royale Chalfont at the Rochester Sweeps Festival in May 2006
